Life Hacks Every Parent Should Know- *hint* get Mom a subscription to these!

Sometimes a new service comes along that is just a game changer and you want to share it with everyone you know because it’s just that exciting. I have had, not 1, but like 4 of these lately, so I can’t not tell my fellow parents.

1: Freshly

This one we started using during our kitchen remodel when we had nothing but a microwave, sink, and basement refrigerator. We didn’t want to just eat take out every night of our 4 MONTH kitchen project and Freshly really saved the day. In their own words, “We’re a weekly subscription meal service that delivers fresh (never frozen) prepared meals, developed by our team of chefs and nutritionists. They’re fully cooked so all you have to do is heat ‘em up—each meal is ready to eat in only 3 minutes. So no more worrying about what’s for dinner (or lunch or breakfast). No shopping, no chopping, no cleanup. But also no artificial ingredients, preservatives or added sugars.”

Basically…not your grandma’s tv dinner. These meals are flavorful, healthy and EASY. Best part is, you can go into your account and choose which meals, how many, and how often they get delivered. My husband and I use these for lunches and the occasional dinner on the run.

2: Plated

Okay with another meal delivery service on the list, I feel like I need to clarify that we really do enjoy cooking! But with 3 kids 2 dogs and self-employed parents, this season of life is just calling for a helping hand. We LOVE Plated. A few years ago, when the meal delivery/cook it yourself craze was just taking off, we tried a different service that won’t be named (but it involved a colored apron) and we were disappointed with the meals and the amount of time it took to prepare.

Plated has seriously never disappointed in the 6 months we’ve been using it! We only get two meals per week and it’s just enough to help us not have to meal plan for every night of the week. We can choose which recipes we want, how many servings, and how many times per week. I love that they measure ingredients for you, and the step by step picture instructions make it easy. Even recipes that we were a little nervous about, have been delicious. Plated chefs, good job.

3: Instacart

While we’re on the topic of food, let’s talk grocery shopping. Does anyone like it? Well, someone must because this company has a team of grocery shoppers who do it so I don’t have to! The phrase, “time is money” has never felt truer than when I utilize this service. I open an app on my phone, add all my groceries to my cart, choose how soon I want them delivered (within 2 hours being the soonest), and then I go to the gym, do laundry, write this blog post….and like magic my groceries show up at my front door. What really makes this service work is that you can chat with the person doing your shopping, so if you forgot something just shoot them a message, or if they have to substitute an item they can get your approval. I pay a small yearly fee and get up to 5 free deliveries per month from the grocery store that I already shop at. I honestly can’t remember how I managed before this.

4: Amazon Prime Wardrobe

You’ve seen all these try-before-you-buy clothing services before. They’re fine. I’ve tried a couple…and probably been happy with the items about 30% of the time. Prime Wardrobe is different because, you probably already have a Prime account so you’re not paying a new fee and you get to choose the items you want to try on! Maybe it’s just me, but whenever I walk into a clothing store and they want to know if I’m “looking for something in particular…” in my head I’m like, “Yeah, I’m looking for something in particular. Something that fits into my unique style and personality and lifestyle needs that you couldn’t possibly do a better job of helping me find because I’m the pickiest person I know and a little thing like a misplaced zipper or wrong colored thread could totally throw off an otherwise perfect item, but you won’t know that and you’ll waste my time by adding it to my fitting room and then I’ll feel guilted into trying it on for you because you’re loitering outside my fitting room asking me if I’ve tried on said item yet!” PHEW. So I say, “No, I’m just browsing, thanks.” Back to Prime Wardrobe…I have the hardest time shoe shopping for my kids because I find the sizes vary so much between brands. More than 50% of the time I end up having to return shoes I come home with and when I take them all to the store with me, I immediately regret it. I ordered my daughter a few pairs of gym shoes from APW, got them delivered, tried them on, only kept and paid for her favorite pair. So stinkin’ easy. Warning…having the items already in your home makes it so hard to not just keep everything so set that budget beforehand or this could easily develop into a shopping addiction.

Let us know if you've tried any of these services and what you thought. And if you have a time-saving hack to share let us know! We've gotta have each other's backs ;)
